Audubon To Host Lunch Bunch Hike Aug. 3

The public is invited to take a road trip for a hike on the Westside Overland Trail with the Audubon Community Nature Center’s First Friday Lunch Bunch. The Aug. 3 outing concludes with a brown bag picnic lunch on the banks of a picturesque pond. Submitted photo

A road trip and hike highlight Audubon Community Nature Center’s First Friday Lunch Bunch on Aug. 3.

At 11 a.m., those interested can meet at the parking lot on the north side of Route 474 between Panama and the junction with Route 76 (GPS 42.07509, -79.51834). From there, participants will carpool or caravan to a backroad location a bit closer to where they will hike to the Warner Road Lean-tos.

Tom Erlandson, who has long served on the Chautauqua County Parks Commission, will be on hand to relate the history of the park system and this trail.

The hike is short, but there are some steep parts.

A bring-your-own brown bag picnic lunch on the banks of a pond completes the experience, which concludes at 1 p.m.

Participants are reminded to bring plenty of water in a daypack for easy carrying and dress for the weather, including hiking shoes/boots, sun and insect protection.

The fee for attending is $8 or $6 for Nature Center Members. Registrations are accepted online on the Programs page at auduboncnc.org through Thursday, Aug. 2. Walk-ins are welcome. Having exact change would be appreciated.

The Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren. To learn more, call 569-2345 during business hours or visit the Programs page at auduboncnc.org.
