Allegany State Park Seeks Volunteers For Trail Stewardship Program

SALAMANCA — Allegany State Park is assembling a volunteer trail crew to help restore and maintain our vast trail system. ASP has nearly 250 miles of hiking and multi-use trails designated for snowmobiling, snowshoeing, horseback riding, bicycling, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing that all need regular maintenance.

Volunteers will gain skills needed to create and maintain sustainable multi-use trails; ranging from trail assessments to making physical repairs to trail surfaces, steps, culverts, etc. Members of the Trail Stewardship Program will also aid in trail clearing, signing and maintenance. This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking experience in the conservation field, or for experienced folks looking to devote their time and expertise to improving an invaluable park resource. Volunteers will work alongside park staff to improve Allegany State Park’s trails that serve more than 1 million users each year.
