BEMUS POINT — The Thule Lodge recently received its historical report for the past year.
The Thule Lodge is the Swedish organization in the Jamestown/Bemus Point area formed 111 years ago to help the Swedish immigrants settle in this country. Many Swedish immigrants settled in the area, with housing, employment and schooling. Many of the Swedish immigrants found employment in the furniture factories of the Jamestown area. Today, Thule Lodge serves to preserve the Swedish heritage through various events and activities during the year.
John Sipos, Cassadaga village and Stockton town historian, also serves as the historian for the Thule Lodge. Sipos prepared a book of all of the many events of the lodge held the previous year. Included were photographs, news articles and records of the meetings. Susan W. Sipos, who serves as the lodge vice chairman, used her computer talents to create a Swedish cover and title page for the record book.
The Lodge is beginning its new season of events after a winter break. The Thule Lodge is located at 4123 Pancake HIll Road. New members are welcome.
