Mayville Senior Citizens Meeting To Be Held

Forty-two senior citizens enjoyed beef on weck sandwiches, pizza, salads, and an array of desserts on April 5. Burl Swanson, Dewittville Fire Chief, was our guest speaker. Chief Swanson spoke of ice water rescues on Chautauqua Lake in connection with the invaluable hovercraft. He kept us on the edge of our seats with one story after another, even providing pictures. Chief Swanson is a dedicated public servant and we thank him.

After Swanson’s presentation, Bonnie Johnson, president, began the meeting. Diane Goodrich provided devotions. The Secretary and Treasurer reports were read. Jeff Wagner, senior council rep, stated the trivia contest has been changed to Tuesday, May 1. Goodwill Chairperson Mary Carlson listed the April birthdays, anniversaries, and cards sent. Thank you to the kitchen committee including Nancy Cole, Joyce Ayers and Dolly Gilbert. Bonnie Johnson welcomed new member Ernest Farver and guest, Charles Carlson. Door prizes were won by Carl Witherow, Priscilla Farver and Paul Motrynczuk.

It was voted unanimously to provide the $50 to the Dewittville Fire Department in honor of Chief Burl Swanson.

Our next meeting will be held April 19 at noon at the Mayville VFW. Our guest speaker will be Miss Judy Wroda from No Wrong Door/N.Y. Connects Program available to all persons in Chautauqua County. Her program will explain how we get connected with the correct programs for utilizing any entitled services. Mr. Bill Tornstrom, Program Chairman, urges all members to attend this meeting to learn what we might be missing.
