The Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue Dog of the Week is Leiney, a purebred Australian cattle dog who likes her quiet time and prefers a more subdued home. She’s a 6-year-old spayed female who true to her breed type is very smart and she knows a number of commands. She needs a home without young children or cats and might prefer to be a home’s only dog; she’ll make up for being the solitary pet by quickly becoming your number one fan. Australian cattle dogs are a herding breed; Leiney sometimes likes to herd cars which isn’t a good thing, so a fenced yard or a lot of leashed walks would make her very happy. The shelter is located at 7540 N. Gale St. in Westfield and is open from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday by appointment by calling 326-7297.
