In July, four members of Busti Federated Church will travel with a group from Lakewood Baptist Church to Fairbanks, Ala., to volunteer at Camp Li-Wa.

Camp Li-Wa, which stands for Living Water, offers year-round activities which include: summer camp for all ages of children, retreat and conference center, horse riding lessons, and more. The camp was started in 1959 as a part of the Denali Bible Church. Its ministries focus on the area of Fairbanks and other parts of interior Alaska.

For the last several years teams from the Jamestown area have been traveling to Camp Li-Wa to assist them with maintenance projects as well as new construction to help the camp reach out to a larger area of rural Alaska. The teams are led by local contractor Cliff Jones.

The Rev. Lee O’Brien, pastor of Busti Federated Church, is one of the members traveling to Alaska. O’Brien is an avid outdoorsman and founder of a local Christian sportsman’s group called S.S.A.F.E., which stands for Saved Shooters and Anglers For Eternity. S.S.A.F.E is sponsoring several upcoming fundraisers to help the group off set the expenses of traveling to Alaska. The next fundraiser is a chicken and biscuit dinner being held at Busti Federated Church on Friday, April 6, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is a donation.
