FREDONIA -- Locally known potters will sell handcrafted mugs, trays, bowls and jewelry at the annual Pottery Show and Sale to benefit the State University at Fredonia's Health Professions School Preparation Scholarship Fund on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.
SUNY Fredonia faculty and staff, including Ted Lee, biology professor, David Rudge, music professor, and Ann Burns, police chief, are part of the pottery contingent that includes Michele Ballachino, Ann Janik, Debbie Kotar, Rhonda Lee, Carol Samuelson and Cynthia Fitzgerald. A portion of the proceeds from each sale will be donated by the potter to the scholarship fund.
All potters created their works on pottery wheels at Mudslingers, a pottery studio in downtown Fredonia owned and operated by SUNY Fredonia alumnus Ron Nasca, who is a supporter and teacher of the potters.
The scholarship fund was established in 2015 to provide support to students preparing for careers in medicine, dentistry, optometry, veterinary medicine and other health professions. The cost to apply to professional schools is high and some students do not have the financial resources needed to pursue admission to these schools.
