Stahley Family Holds 14th Annual Reunion In Napoli
The 14th annual family reunion was held on Sunday, Sept. 3, hosted by Karen and Jeff Cloutier of Napoli.
The weather was cool with rain ending mid-afternoon. Temps were in the high 50s, something the family hadn’t had to deal with in a number of years. The Cloutier’s large garage kept the group warm and dry. The meeting was opened by Janet Huntington of Randolph. She read last year’s minutes and gave a financial report as of that date. A writing was also read entitled “Mean Moms” which was appropriate for all the kids heading back to school in a few days.
The oldest family member attending was Jeff Cloutier at the ripe old age of 75. Due to the weather conditions, Naomi Stahley, now 89, was unable to attend. The youngest member was Stevie Dianne Dauphin, daughter of Pete and Corinne Benson Dauphin, who was born Sept. 19, 2015.
Andrew Hitchcock of Peoria, Ariz., got engaged to Laura Foley this year with an August 18, 2018, wedding anticipated. Hitchcock said he hoped that several family members will be able to attend their wedding.
Brandon Stahley married Michelle Corley on Thursday, Oct. 27, in Arizona. Family members attending were David and Charlotte Stahley, Julie and John Hitchcock, Janet and Shawn Huntington, Raleigh and Tara Smith and Andrew Hitchcock.
A moment of silence was held for the passing of Jack Stahley of Randolph, who passed away on Jan. 5, 2017. A glass was raised in his honor and for all other deceased members of the family.
Thirty-nine family members and one guest attended. The family member traveling the farthest was Scott Stahley from Fort Knox, Ky., where he is currently serving with the U.S. Army. The winning 50/50 ticket was drawn by Baker Huntington with Denise Stahley winning $40. The tickets were sold by Shawn and Heather Huntington.
A beef on weck dinner was provided by A to Z catering of Randolph. Corn was provided by Keith and Nikki Smallback.
The family had a Chinese auction with a few baskets for the children. The “back to school” basket was won by Harper Smith. One of the hot sellers was Karen Stahley Cloutier’s famous scotcheroos. This year they were won by Nicole Smallback but were secretly “shared” by Corrine Dauphin. Paige Stahley also made some of her home-baked cookies which were won by Tara Smith. Corinne Dauphin led the drawings for the Chinese auction items and made it very entertaining.
Children had a day of fishing with many pictures of the “big one” that didn’t get away.
Raleigh Smith and Lori Benson were victorious in the cornhole tournament and took home the trophy and medals of honor.
An inquiry was made into who would host next year’s reunion and Charlotte and David Stahley made the commitment. It will be in Springville next year.
A big hit this year was the abbreviated family tree that Karen Cloutier made and posted for all to see. It seems that the family’s ancestors originated from Germany. John Stahley travels to Germany often and will check with some locals to see if they have ever heard of the old derivative of our name “Stalee.”
