Chautauqua County 4-H Goat Program Performs At Fair In Dunkirk

Chautauqua County 4-H Goat Program participants performed in the Goat Arena recently in the Dairy Goat and Meat Goat shows.

Youth were judged by Stacie Jowdy, who evaluated youth in showmanship classes based on how well each youth and goat performed together. Youth in the Goat Show also participated in dairy and market classes in which animals were judged on respective breed standards and in market classes on finish and projected carcass quality. Market goat participants sold their animals at the 4-H Meat Animal Sale.

Wednesday’s Goat Show results are:

Goat Senior Showmanship: Tesika Kilmer, first place; Julia Anderson, second place.

Goat Junior Showmanship: Genevieve Smith, first place; Lincoln Smith, second place.

Goat Novice Showmanship: Steven Overend, first place; Onnalee Strong, second place.

Grand Champion Showman is Steven Overend. Master Showman is Anna Talbot.

Cloverbud are 4-H members under 9 years old who participate in non-competitive animal activities. This year, four youth participated in the 4-H Goat Cloverbud Program and exhibited their goats in the 4-H Goat Show. Each Cloverbud member received a variegated ribbon, trophy and a donated gift.

Cloverbud participants were: Grady Huntington and Ethan Weilacher.

4-H Goat participants showed their animals in breeding classes in which the animals were evaluated on structure, balance, breed standards and body composition. In the A.O.P. the Best Junior Doe in Show All Other Breeds is Genevieve Smith with “Glimmerous”. Best Senior Doe in Show went to Genevieve Smith with “Shodow”.

Best Doe in Show also went to Genevieve Smith with “Shadow”. Makayla LaRoy received top honors for the Best Dam and Daughter with “Eve” and “Grace”. The Best Udder Award went to Genevieve Smith’s goat “Shadow”. Best three females went to Genevieve Smith.

In the Meat Goat Breeding Class, Robbie Clutter’s goat “Kiss and Tell” received Best Junior Doe and Champion Breeding Meat Goat.

Onnalee Strong received Champion Market Goat. Steven Overend received Reserve Champion Market Goat.

In the Pygmy Goat Division, Gracie Morrison received Grand Champion with “Nissa” and also received Reserve Champion Pygmy with “Toucan”.

Awards in the Fiber Goat division, Mackenzy Graziano received Grand Champion and Samuel Comstock received the Reserve Champion prize.

Supreme Champion of Show went to Gracie Morrison with her Pygmy Goat “Nissa.”
