Audubon To Host Silk Scarf Workshop On June 2
At the Audubon Community Nature Center’s Silk Scarf Workshop, those interested can learn an easy technique to create a nature-themed scarf.
On Friday, June 2, from 1:30-3:30 p.m., Elaine Caflisch and Mary Barker will co-teach a hands-on workshop and provide all the materials one needs to make a wearable nature-themed art piece.
Not only will those attending go home with a silk scarf to wear or give as a gift, they will also know how to make their own creations.
The technique will be demonstrated on silk scarves, but can be applied to other fabric items as well.
Elaine Caflisch has been painting for 45 years, mostly on porcelain, but also murals, furniture, and other items. Mary Barker is retired from a 33-year career in art and elementary education and most recently has been repurposing old china to make mosaics. Both these “friends in art” are officers in the Chautauqua County Society of Artists. Participants are reminded to wear clothes they won’t mind getting paint on.
Class size is limited, and the fee is $38 or $34 for members ($16 tuition, $22 materials fee; members get 25 percent off tuition at checkout).
Paid reservations are required by Monday, May 29, by calling 569-2345 during business hours or click through Attend a Program/Programs and Workshops under Plan Your Visit or the Programs link in the top bar at auduboncnc.org.
Audubon education programs are funded with support from the Carnahan Jackson Foundation, Jessie Smith Darrah Fund, Holmberg Foundation, Hultquist Foundation and Lenna Foundation.
