Winged Ox Players To Hold Auditions For ‘Least Resistance’

The Winged Ox Players invite local actors to be a part of the debut production of the original performance of “Least Resistance”; a dramatic play that explores the story of addiction and recovery in Jamestown.

Auditions will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Undercroft of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 410 N. Main St., Jamestown.

“Least Resistance” is the result of a nearly year-long series of interviews conducted by local playwright Richard Olson-Walter, who then compiled the material into a sequence of scenes that tell the authentic stories of local individuals who are personally affected by addiction.

The play will be directed by Steven Michael Cobb, who is also the director of peer services for the Chautauqua County Mental Health Association. The association has been the driving force in the local battle against substance abuse and addiction in the area. Cobb said the Winged Ox production is being presented as a way to offer the community a chance to become more engaged and involved; to be a part of the change that needs to happen to help solve the problem.

“The thing that is missing in our conversations about the substance use disorder epidemic in Jamestown is the personal connection we all have to the people experiencing addiction first hand,” Cobb said. “Every resident is connected and touched in some way to this epidemic. Everyone must be part of the healing. I hope “Least Resistance” will enable all of the community to connect to these stories of addiction and recovery. Every member of our community needs to find their part in the healing that needs to take place.”

According to Olson-Walter, there are numerous roles both large and small available for actors aged 16 and over, and all local actors are invited to audition, regardless of experience. Anyone interested in assisting with other areas of the production, such as backstage or production support is also invited to attend the auditions.

“Least Resistance” will be presented on Friday and Saturday April 28-29 and May 5-6 at a venue to be announced. The performance will be open and free to the public.

The Winged Ox Players is a ministry of St. Luke’s that engages the theatrical talents of the greater Jamestown area to present plays that inspire conversations about our community. Individuals interested in more information are asked to contact Steven Cobb at 499-5142.
