The World War II drama "Hacksaw Ridge" shows Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Reg Lenna Center for The Arts.
The film is nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Actor (Andrew Garfield), Best Director (Mel Gibson) and Best Picture. Admission is $5.
Hacksaw Ridge is the true story of Desmond Doss who, in Okinawa during the bloodiest battle of World War II, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. He was the only American soldier in World War II to fight on the front lines without a weapon, as he believed that while the war was justified, killing was nevertheless wrong. As an army medic, he evacuated the wounded from behind enemy lines, braved fire while tending to soldiers and was wounded by a grenade and hit by snipers. Doss was the first conscientious objector awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor
Hacksaw Ridge is Rated R and is 139 minutes long.
The next movie coming up at The Reg is Best Picture nominee, Hell or High Water, starring Chris Pine and Best Supporting Actor nominee Jeff Bridges. Hell or High Water shows Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m.
