Panama Student Wins Book It! Award
Andrew Hammond, a second-grade student at Panama Central School, was recently named the Pizza Hut Book It! Program’s Crazy Little Thing Called Reading giveaway winner.
Participating Book It! teachers set a monthly reading goal for their students from October through March. When the student reached their monthly goal, the teacher awarded them a reading award certificate valid for a free one-topping personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut. When the child redeemed the certificate, they were given a “passport to reading.” For each certificate redeemed, they received a collectible sticker, collecting six total for the duration of the program. This year, Pizza Hut awarded a chance to win a 100-book library and Kindle Voyage e-reader to participating Book It! readers who read their heart out all six months of the 2016-17 program.
Created in 1984 by Pizza Hut, Book It! currently reaches over 14 million students in 620,000 classrooms annually. The longest-running, corporate-supported reading program in the country has engaged educators for more than three decades. Since its inception, more than 62 million students have participated in the program.
