GERRY – The Rodeo City Senior Citizens of Gerry met recently for their monthly luncheon and program at the Gerry United Methodist Church. President Leona Peterson welcomed all to the gathering and gave the blessing prior to the luncheon. A fine selection of food was available for all to enjoy as a variety of dishes of food were brought by those attending. The table decorations were provided by Bob and Jean Seastedt, who provided a tour through Sweden with many Swedish decorations. The Seastedts have been in Sweden nine times and purchased many Swedish ornaments including the Dalahast, which is the Swedish horse, the Maypole used in what is known as Midsommer and the Lucia dolls. All decorations provided a colorful tour.
O. Winston Bartholomew, wagonmaster, gave a review of bus tours being considered by the group for the remainder of the year. The secretary’s report was read by Margie McIntyre, secretary, and the financial report was given by Valerie Bartholomew, treasurer. There were seven birthdays and four anniversaries of members announced, with singing of the birthday song and the anniversary song.
Peterson provided a program on Flag Day. After completing much research on the history, each table of people were given a sheet of history to read. These pages included the Flag Code, rules and regulations on displaying an American Flag, folding the flag, displaying an American Flag on the right fender of a car on its pole and hanging an American Flag. Peterson reminded all that in a group of flags, the American Flag is raised the highest of all the flags. She concluded the talk with the patriotic song “My Country Tis of Thee.”
The next gathering of the group will be the annual summer picnic at the Gerry Friendship Park on Friday, July 10, promptly at noon. All those attending are asked to bring a dish of food to add to the meal, and their own table service. Table decorations will be provided by Ruth Newton and Joyce Erickson. The gathering today closed with all singing “Blest Be The Tie That Binds,” led by song leader Bob Seastedt. New members are always welcome.
