The Jamestown Audubon Nature Center’s annual Snowflake Festival will be Saturday, Feb. 7, with activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Day-long activities include live animals, foods, exhibits and vendors. Horse drawn sleigh rides – or wagon, depending on the weather – will be available all afternoon.
Times for special activities are:
10:30 a.m.: Hike with a Naturalist – Explore the grounds with a guide and see what is happening in the winter world (repeats at noon and 2 p.m.).
11 a.m.: Wild Spirit Education Program – Daytime Sky Hunters. See live birds of prey up close and learn all about their unique ways of surviving as a daytime hunter.
Noon-4 p.m.: Horse-drawn sleigh rides
Noon: Hike With a Naturalist
Noon: Wild Spirit Education – Meet and greet the live owls and other birds of prey and their handlers up close. Ask questions and get photos.
Noon: Kicksled Demonstrations outdoors by Tails of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue (repeats at 1, 2 and 3 p.m.)
1 p.m.: Wild Spirit Education Program – Owls. Learn all about owls and the ways they get around at night.
1 p.m.: Kicksled Demonstrations
2 p.m.: Hike with a Naturalist

Equipment will be provided to try snowshoeing and cross-country skiing if there is snow. Other outdoor opportunities include cooking demonstrations with lots of samples, alpacas in a petting pen and behind-the-scenes tours of Audubon’s resident bald eagle.
Indoors will be more live animals including reptiles, amphibians and arachnids. Those attending can build nest boxes or suet feeders, make children’s crafts, engage in gardening activities, and see demonstrations of a spinning wheel and wood carving.
The festival also includes environmentally responsible exhibitors, displays, and vendors with hand-made items like soap, pottery, doggie biscuits, jewelry and winter wear.
Kettle corn and cotton candy are among the food treats, along with hot cocoa, coffee, snacks and hot dogs. There will also be giveaways, door prizes, Chinese auction and shopping at the Blue Heron Gift Shop.
Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts of any age group can earn a Winter Fun patch by completing certain activities at the festival. For more information and to sign up their groups, scout leaders can call Audubon at 569-2345 or visit www.snowflakefestival.wordpress.com/scouts.

Admission to the Snowflake Festival is $6; children ages 3 to 15 are $2 and those two and under are free. Parking is free. Extra fees apply for some activities.
