2 min read

The James Prendergast Library will offer three opportunities to take a technology class before the end of the year with Introduction to Computers; Introduction to MiOffice 2010 – Excel and Word; and D Printing.

Introduction to Computers will meet for two sessions from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesday and Thursday, Dec. 9 and 11. The course is designed for the new computer user or someone who is looking for a quick refresher of basic information. Students are guided at a comfortable pace through computer terminology, turning the computer on and off properly, using a mouse, and working through various computer programs.

“This course is hands-on. You start at the very beginning,” said instructor Janet Haveron.

Introduction to Microsoft Office 2010 – Excel and Word will meet for four sessions from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, Dec. 10, 12, 17 and 19.

“Microsoft Excel and Word are must-have skills in today’s work force, and this class provides an overview of both,” said Jesse Pardue, Learning Lab technician and class teacher.

During Introduction to Spreadsheets (Excel), those attending will learn to work with and analyze numbers using a spreadsheet. They will create their own spreadsheets, use formulas and formatting, and learn to search, manage, calculate and use graphs in Microsoft Excel 2010.

Introduction to Word Processing (Microsoft Word) will introduce the features of Microsoft Word 2010, including creating and editing documents, formatting, cutting and pasting, tables, headers, footers and mailing labels.

Pardue will also offer single-session classes about 3D printing from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturdays Dec. 13 and Dec. 20.

Each session will contain information about the history, mechanics and applications of 3D printing. Those attending will learn the fundamentals of object manipulation in MakerWare as well as printing on a Makerbot Replicator 2. There are no prerequisites for attendance, and participants at all levels of familiarity with technology are welcome.

Registration is not required for the 3D printing sessions, but sign-ups are requested for Introduction to Computers and Introduction to Microsoft Office 2010 – Excel and Word.
