The Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy will hold tours at its two Chautauqua Creek Preserves this week.
CWC just received a donation of 21 acres of forest land on Lyons Road in the town of Chautauqua from Jay Stratton of Westfield. The first tour will take place at the newly donated Chautauqua Creek Oxbow Forest Preserve on Lyons Road, Mayville, on Wednesday. Participants will meet at the preserve at 10 a.m. for this rigorous hike through rugged terrain to see some gorge habitat.
The second tour will take place at the Chautauqua Creek East Branch Preserve on Route 430 in Mayville on Friday. The group will gather at the preserve parking area across from Redwing Road at 6 p.m., where they will explore the extensive beaver pond habitat with a sunset hike.
The tours will be led by Stratton, who donated both sites to the CWC.
Participants should dress for the weather. Long sleeves, long pants and sturdy waterproof boots are recommended. Insect repellent may be useful.
These tours are free for CWC members, with a $5 suggested donation for non-members. Registration is requested but not required.
