The 28th annual PGA Pro-Am tournament at the Chautauqua Golf Club will benefit the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy for the third consecutive year.
The tournament attracts more than 150 golfers from New York and Pennsylvania. Linda Barber, CWC president and Pro-Am co-chair, said she expects a record turnout.
“The event is by far one of the most popular community events of the summer with a list of corporate and individual sponsors continuing to grow each year,” she said.
All sponsors and golfers have the opportunity to participate in professional clinics and to have dinner at the end of the tournament. The 2014 tournament will celebrate Chautauqua Golf Club’s 100th anniversary and will include play on both the lake and hill courses.
Money raised supports all of the CWC’s vital work throughout the year. The conservancy is a countywide organization whose programs target the root causes of lake problems by conserving landscape features that function to collect, store, filter, and deliver clean waters to our waterways and water supplies. Previous tournaments have supported many projects including:
Partial funding for the conservation of the Whitney Bay Lakeshore Forest Wetland Site (12 acres). This site holds some of the most important wetland fish and wildlife habitats on Chautauqua Lake.
Conserving forest and wetlands that feed waters into Chautauqua Lake, Chautauqua Creek, Bear Lake, Cassadaga Creek and the Brocton Reservoir.
Providing conservation and landscaping assistance to address stream and lakeshore erosion and stop Chautauqua Lake’s sediment and nutrient problems from fueling lake algae and plant growth.
Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy conservationists and members work with landowners to enhance shoreline habitats, control soil erosion, and encourage them to reduce nutrients from lawn care and other activities to slow algae growth. The Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy also works with towns and organizations in the county to conserve important Chautauqua lakeshore habitat sites, and the habitats and land features that are integral to other streams and lakes of the Chautauqua region.
The Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy is encouraging individuals and businesses to support the event and is accepting new sponsorships at various levels.
“This public golf event will be a highly visible, important rallying and networking event for area businesses, as well as an essential fundraiser for all of CWC’s efforts,” Barber said.
The mission of the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy is to preserve and enhance the scenic beauty, water quality and ecological health of the lakes, streams and watersheds of the Chautauqua region.
