Toastmasters Speech Contest Free To The Public
Chautauqua Talks Toastmasters Club of Jamestown is sponsoring a speech contest at Crown Business Center, 316 E. Fourth St, Jamestown, on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 6:30 p.m. The contest will feature non-professional speakers in the area with two speaking contests. Residents and interested individuals may enjoy the competition featuring both prepared and impromptu speeches.
Prepared speeches by accomplished speakers will be competing for the club championship. The winner is eligible to compete in an upcoming area contest against members of other Toastmasters clubs.
A competition for the finest impromptu speaker will also be held as part of the program. This impromptu speech features a one- to two-minute response to a question asked by the contest chair. No contestant hears the question or anyone’s response prior to their turn on stage. Judging is based on speech development, effectiveness, voice and language.
Chautauqua Talks Toastmasters Club meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at Crown Business Center, E. Fourth St, Jamestown at 7 p.m. The club is hosting a Speechcraft workshop starting Feb. 18. This course will be held six consecutive weeks for participants who wish to improve their speaking skills.
