Harmony Seniors Hold Monthly Meeting
The Harmony Senior Citizens met recently for their monthly meeting at Panama United Methodist Church with 60 members present.
Rosalie Logue, president, presided over the meeting. Melvin Lord, chaplain, led the flag salute and prayer. He also read a poem titled Time Slips Away and honored veterans and service members. An annual memorial service was held for those that passed away this past year: Marian Simmons, Stan Sturges, Marian Palmer, Mildred Palmer, Betty Sweeney, Evelyn Sweeney, Henry Van Luther, Ruth Bratt and Gene Erb.
Beverly Smith read the minutes and Lester Wevers gave the treasure report.
A thank you note was received from the Humane Society for the group’s donations and another thank you note was from Rosalie Logue for all the cards, phone calls and prayers during her illness.
Dottie Enlow gave reports on trips.
Birthdays celebrated in June were Shirley Carlson, Joyce Ecker, Dottie Enlow, June Federko, Desmond Harper, Sandy Hoyt, Peachy James, Larry Ostrander, Ruth Ostrander, Judy Prechtel, Helen Russ, June Walker, March Ray and Elizabeth Bissel, who is 99.
Anniversaries included Ron and Janet Kelly, Tom and Bev Smith and Steve and Joan Wiggers.
The next meeting will be a picnic in the pavilion on July 11 at the church. Nomination of officers will also be held. Committee members are: Sally Hagg, Sharon Nutt and Marilyn Alexander.
Dates to remember are:
Aug. 1, monthly meeting, with members reminded to bring their Washington, D.C., trip pictures for show and tell;
Aug. 9, a Midway Park barbecue picnic. Tickets are $6 a person; and
Aug. 13, the Senior Dinner and Dance will take place at Frewsburg.
A motion was made to raise the dues to $8 and plans for future fundraisers were discussed.
Pig and Poke and other prizes were given out.
