CASAC?To Offer Training Session Friday

“Preventing Relapse: An Action Plan” workshop will be offered through the Chautauqua Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Council from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 219 Central Ave., Fredonia.

Tony Bellanca, CASAC prevention specialist, will present the training. Based on the suggestions of Terrence Gorski, the presentation will focus on the six stages of recovery from chemical dependency. Participants will recognize that while working through the challenges that create frustration and lead to relapse, promoting physical, psychological, social and spiritual health are essential to long-term sobriety. Participants will participate in discussion of case studies and learn how to apply information from the presentation to their personal use.

Counselors would be most interested in this training. Also this course is suitable for those seeking professional credentialing as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor, Credentialed Prevention Professional or Credentialed Prevention Specialist. The three hours CASAC (Sec. 2) or CPP (Sec. 1) are approved by the state Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services.

The fee is $40, and pre-registration is required. Community members interested in the topic are welcome and encouraged to attend.
