BEMUS POINT — Hanft’s Landscaping has recently completed a new outdoor space for a customer in Bemus Point.
The space is made up of a retaining wall, patio, staircase and wall lights. The space was recently completed for the customer and unveiled with a ribbon cutting ceremony put on by the Chamber of Commerce on July 13.
Owned by Justin Hanft, Hanft’s Landscaping is in its second year in business. Hanft is a full time teacher, and so are the rest of his staff members. Hanft runs the landscaping business in the summer, and most recently has begun to do projects in hardscape and lighting.
Hanft said the ribbon cutting ceremony went great, and allowed his family and entire team — made up of four staff members including himself — to be there.
“The customer will be able to use the area in many different ways,” Hanft said. “There is a patio under the deck and they put a ping-pong table there. There’s also a seating area and I think a fire pit.”

Hanft said the hardscape and LED lighting services the company provides has been growing quickly, as people are looking more into these types of services.
“People are sick of solar lights, like you find at Home Depot, and they don’t last very long,” Hanft said. “With LEDs, they offer bright illumination and low voltage that can be connected to an outdoor outlet. I don’t have to be a certified electrician to put them in, but they still give off certified electrician quality lights.”
“It’s a great way to accent a home, and also helps with security at night.”
Hanft’s Landscaping is seasonal like most landscaping companies, but since he and his staff are all full-time teachers as well, Hanft said the season for them specifically lasts from the end of the school year to the beginning of the next, approximately June 27 to Sept. 1. If people are interested in their services, he encouraged people to contact them through the website, hanftslandscaping.com.
In the future, Hanft and his team hope to continue to grow their hardscape and lighting services.
“We value education as a team of teachers, and we want to learn the best practices of the trade,” Hanft said. “We are getting better every day and working to utilize our hardscaping skills to learn and get better and be more efficient for our customers.”
