They fix glass problems — with pride.
The employees of D & S Glass, 333 Fluvanna Ave., handle any auto, residential, commercial, and industrial glass work in Jamestown and the surrounding areas.
“We are proud of our work we have done locally to help improve our community over the years. We replaced all the glass windows in the remodeled hotel on Fourth Street. BWB (Buffamante, Whipple, Buttafaro accounting firm, 201 W. Third St. Suite 300) was another great project and the addition to the (Northwest) Ice Arena, 319, W. Third St. But our service is what we offer no job is too small we treat all of our customers the same,” owner Mike LaTone said.
D & S Glass was named winner in the window/glass category in the 2022 Chautauqua County Best of the Best contest sponsored by The Post-Journal and the Dunkirk OBSERVER.
The owner said that the most requested service depends on the season. For example, LaTone said, in the spring, he sees more repairs of screens, either for doors or windows. In the winter months, he added, there are more auto glass claims that are filed.
“We offer a great shop for the work to be done as we have overhead heater installed to dry the vehicles off befor any work is done,” LaTone said.
During the winter, LaTone suggests getting the vehicle in the shop to let it dry, first, “then we can install the windshield usually taking about 1 1/2 hours,” LaTone said.
In 1958 Bob Shilling and John Day opened D & S Glass and focused their attention on windshield installation and glass repair, according to dsglass.com Don Smith took over ownership of the company in 1968, until the current owner of our company, LaTone, purchased the business in 1991. LaTone had previously managed the Glass & Paint Center, a division of Falconer Glass Industries, on E. Second Street for 21 years.
The business originally operated out of Steele Street in the Jamestown Awning building. In 1974, the business relocated to Fluvanna Avenue to the building currently occupied by DFT Communications and it subsequently was moved across the street to its current location. In 1994, we purchased the assets of the commercial glass division of Falconer Glass Industries. With this purchase, the company entered into the construction market for commercial aluminum, glass, and glazing. Along with this purchase, a 10,000-square-foot addition was built to meet the demands of the construction market.
“We believe that our success in the community is dependent on our employees and we pride ourselves on having outstanding customer service,” the website said.
D & S Glass employees have worked with local companies and organizations that include, Jamestown City Hall, Lutheran Social Services, G.A. Family Services, Shults Resale, Southwestern Central School District, Hamot Heart Institute, University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, JCC-Olean Campus, and Jamestown High School, the website noted.
“We have a great team on installers with a lot of years in the business,” LaTone noted.
The website added that the business can handle a wide variety of services that includes vinyl window replacement, sliding glass and entry door installation, insulated glass repair, and glass shower door installation.
“We are a six-day-a-week company. If it’s in our scope of work, we never say no,” LaTone said.
