Multi-Media Beat To Cover A Lot Of Ground

No two stories are the same.

And that’s what makes this multi-media beat so interesting –there isn’t a dull day.

By now you have probably read a story in The Post-Journal that has a video link and tells you there is a video component attached to it. On www.post-journal.com a video can be viewed as part of the posted story, where the video is inserted in between paragraphs of story. They sort of look like advertisements couched inside the stories.

Once on the site, you just need to click on the triangle graphic in the middle of the video to watch it. The video is complete with sound and identifcation graphics, so you know who is talking and what the person or people are talking about. Also the video will appear on the “Local Videos” section of the website, so you can view the video there as well.

So when gathering news, I try to get a unique angle to use in the video. The rest of the story is left for me to tell through writing.

Depending on the subject, the video usually runs between one minute and two minutes in length. That time length is enough to tell another side of the story. I try to get as much footage as I can, so I always have enough, and so I can edit it down to the proper length.

I have been very fortunate to record some outstanding stories including “Rake For The Lake,” Panama Fall Foliage Festival, The Probables performance at Southern Tier Brewing, Jamestown High School Football, Portland Town Museum, Lucille Ball Little Theatre stage renovation, JHS Marching Band, Section VI Football Media Day, and the Saints and Sinners cemetery tour.

Now I welcome your ideas and your comments. If you have a story that needs to be told through video and print, kindly contact me here at The P-J. The stories are not limited to only to Jamestown and Chautauqua County. Stories from Cattaraugus County as well as Warren County, Pa. also are welcomed. Podcasts also are being developed.
