Lakewood Book Store Changes Name
LAKEWOOD — The bookstore formerly known as Off the Beaten Path is taking a leaf out of Mr. Roger’s playbook, and promoting neighborliness.
The bookstore, 124 Chautauqua Ave., Lakewood, recently changed its name to Good Neighbor Bookstore to help promote understanding, kindness and being a good neighbor. Bob Lingle, the bookstore owner, said he has been kicking around the idea of a new name for the shop for quite some time.
“I just kind of tabled the idea when we moved to our new location in August of 2020,” he said. “It was this past fall that the name popped into my head. I have an appreciation of Mr. Rogers, and we have a lot of Mr. Rogers’ things in the store.”
Over the past four years, Lingle said the store has grown to include new products, events and a podcast called “Weaponize Literacy.”
He said it took some time to come up with the name in its final iteration.
“A lot of thought went into if it should be, ‘The Good Neighbor Bookstore’ or ‘A Good Neighbor Bookstore’ but our name isn’t meant to declare that we are good neighbors, but that we are striving to be good neighbors, want you to be good neighbors, and are a place for good neighbors to convene,” he said.
Lingle said he is always looking for new ways to collaborate and help local organizations.
