Chautauqua County’s unemployment rate ticked up .2% in January as 100 fewer people found themselves employed and an additional 100 people entered the workforce compared to January 2019.

The county’s unemployment rate was 5.9% in January 2020 compared to 5.7% in January 2019. Chautauqua County had 54,600 people in the labor force in January 2019 and 54,700 in the labor force in January 2020.

The number of employed people in Chautauqua County decreased from 51,500 in January 2019 to 51,400 in January 2020.

Chautauqua County’s unemployment rate increase is in contrast to many metro areas, which cumulatively saw an unemployment decrease from 4.7% to 4% from January 2019 to January 2020.

Non-metro counties saw their aggregate unemployment rate remain unchanged at 5.8% from January 2019 to January 2020.
