Bank Hosting Essay Contest

ERIE, Pa. — Erie Bank is inviting eligible students to enhance their business education by participating in their annual scholarship contest.

One winner from each eligible school will receive a $500 scholarship to be used for continuing business education. High School graduating seniors with intentions to further their education at a college or university seeking a business-related degree are eligible. Student must attend a high school in the Erie Bank market area. Dependents of directors or officers of Erie Bank are not eligible to apply.

The essay theme will be about a student’s time studying history, which includes learning about influential persons, new technologies and other advancements that led to where society is today. However, the future also holds many possibilities. Knowing what a student knows about the past and possible future, would you choose to spend one year in the past or one year in the future, what year would you choose and why.

Essay requirements include a minimum of 300 words, typed and double-spaced and a participant’s name and/or family names should not appear on the essay. Submission requirements include a brief summary of participation in community and school activities, one letter of recommendation from a present or past educator and one nonfamily reference that can provide personal insight into the applicant.

To submit an essay turn an application into the high school’s guidance office along with essay and letter of recommendation by March 15. Also, email the submissions or mail to Erie Bank, Attn: Jill Barry, 2302 W. 12th St., Erie, Pa., 16505. Also, complete the online applicant form and upload your essay and letter of recommendation at eriebank.bank/scholarship by 11:59 p.m. March 17.

Essays will be judged on originality and how well ideas are expressed. Contributions to both school and community will be considered, as well as educator recommendation and personal reference checks. Winners will be announced March 29.
