Paid Family Leave Act Seminar Set

Chautauqua Works and the Workforce Investment/Development Board, along with the state Department of Labor and the Chautauqua Business Services Team, will host a business seminar for local employers, entitled The New York Paid Family Leave Law — Are You Ready For Jan. 1, 2018?

The New York Paid Family Leave Law take effect Jan. 1. Virtually every private employer and nonprofit in New York is affected and must be prepared to administer the new benefit. There will be discussion on how the law impacts the workplace. Subjects include an overview of the law and final regulations; coverage and eligibility questions, including waivers; funding the paid benefits; interplay with other leave-related state and federal laws; leave management challenges and solutions; best practices for updating policies; related paid time off; collective bargaining issues and case studies.

Daniel P. Forsyth of Bond, Schoeneck & King PLLC will be the presenter. Forsyth is a labor and employment law attorney who represents employers in National Labor Relations Board proceedings including unfair labor practice charges and more than 25 union organizing campaigns. He has experience in labor arbitration, collective bargaining, jurisdictional disputes, strikes, picketing and injunction proceedings. Forsyth regularly appears before various federal and state agencies. He practices at all levels of state and federal courts in litigation involving employment discrimination, wrongful discharge, restrictive covenants, motions to stay arbitration, duty of fair representation and injunctions and advises clients on all areas of federal and New York employment law.

Forsyth has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for 20 consecutive years. By this publication, he was recently named Buffalo’s best attorney for the last three years: Litigation-Labor and Employment (2016), Labor Law-Management (2015) and Employment Law-Management (2014).

The seminar will be presented on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Willow Bay Theatre, 23 E. Third St., fourth floor, Jamestown. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $25 per person and includes a buffet lunch. Registration and lunch will begin at noon. The program will begin at 12:30 p.m. and go through 3 p.m.
