Howard Walters has been working with cars since he was a teenager, and has no plans of stopping now.

Walters owns Randolph Auto Supply in Randolph, which offers genuine customer service, auto parts and automotive paint. The shop has done so for more than 40 years, which the community has supported greatly, he said. The auto supply shop celebrated its 40th anniversary in October, and is looking forward to continuing on.

Walters said the reason the community keeps coming back to the store is because of the service.

“We try to do extra service,” he said. “We dig for (parts) and try to solve (the customers’) problem.”

He said the main goal for those who work in garages is to keep them at work and not searching for parts. Rather, Randolph Auto Supply focuses on making life a little easier for them.

Also, as a man who grew up with four sisters, Walters said he makes sure women are treated well and not given the run-around on what their car needs. However, he said he has noticed there is a difference between his male customers and his female customers. Walters said when he tells a woman about a particular problem that could occur down the line with her specific car, she is more apt to remember it than if he tells one of the men who come in.

“The men will say, ‘What is it you were telling me about?'” Walters said with a laugh.

The store is locally owned and operated, and focuses on being involved in the community, he said. The shop donates to many events such as the Boy Scouts, baseball teams and other needs in the community.

“We’ve always participated in the community,” Walters said. “When you own a business like this, you have to look out for the whole community.”

Also, he said children have been coming into the shop for years to receive a sucker. Walters said the shop is on the third generation of children who come in for suckers.

“I keep saying that’s why people come back – the suckers,” he said.

The store is located at 18 Jamestown St. in Randolph, and is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m to 5 p.m.; Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
