Brick City In The Pearl

The return of Andrew and Amanda Anderson to the Jamestown area has resulted in a newly opened grocery store and deli in the heart of the Pearl City.

The Andersons, who own Brick City Market and Deli, as well as Brick City Spirits, officially celebrated the grand opening of their new businesses along with various officials, dignitaries and representatives in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday.

Brick City Market and Deli opened its doors July 1, providing downtown residents with a service they said the city was sorely lacking – a grocery store and deli. The Anderson family, which also includes Andrew and Amanda’s two daughters, Aleena and Andee, recently moved back to Jamestown after living abroad for the past several years to embark on a new journey together.

“It started a couple years ago when we were talking with the owner of the building about what people downtown need,” Andrew Anderson said. “We listened (to the residents), and what they said was that they needed a grocery store and deli. So we’ve been developing this idea and, along with the support of the people and organizations who are here with us today, we made it come true. We now have a new business venture, and we’re going to see how it goes as we head into the next chapter of our lives.”

Andrew and Amanda worked as school teachers for the past 10 years. The two taught three years in Florida, two years in Germany and five years in the Dominican Republic. The Andersons received financial assistance from the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation to open their businesses. They received $5,000 in assistance from the JRC’s Downtown Commercial Rental Incentive program. They also received assistance from the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency and the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council.

In addition to the grand opening of Brick City Market and Deli, the Andersons also celebrated the opening of Brick City Spirits on Monday, which had yet to commence operations prior to the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The market will have seating for 20-30 people. By also operating Brick City Spirits, they will be able to serve alcohol for meals at the market and deli.
