County Health Board To Meet Sept. 17
MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Board of Health will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in the HRC Building, fourth floor conference room, 7 N. Erie St., Mayville. Comments received from the public will be accepted as communications, and not read during privilege of the floor. Public comments at the meetings during the privilege of the floor must be made in person. Rabies Vaccination Clinic Scheduled For Sept. 17 In Ripley
RIPLEY – The Chautauqua County Health Department and town of Ripley will host a rabies vaccination clinic from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Ripley town highway building, 50 Ross St., Ripley. Animals must be pre-registered to receive vaccinations. Vaccinations will be provided free of charge to all dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets three months of age and older. Pre-registration is required and should be submitted online by visiting HealthyCHQ.com/Rabies and view the calendar for upcoming clinics. There are a limited number of spots available, so pet owners should pre-register online as soon as possible. Those who register but decide not to attend the event are asked to cancel their appointment so the spot is available for another pet. Appointments can be canceled via the confirmation email received after registering. Pet owners must bring previous rabies vaccination records for each animal receiving a shot to ensure proper and effective vaccination; clinic staff will confirm previous rabies vaccination records. All dogs must be on a leash. All cats and ferrets must be in individual carriers. Animal handlers will transport animals to the veterinarian for vaccination.
Resource Center To Host Blood Drive
CELORON – The Resource Center, 200 Dunham Ave., Celoron, will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 18. All blood types are needed 1o ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 16 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Harmony Historical Society To Host Living History Fair Saturday
BLOCKVILLE – The Harmony Historical Society will host its annual Living History Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at its grounds at 1943 Open Meadows Road, Blockville. There will be live craftsman demonstrations throughout the day and all the museum buildings and research center will be open with volunteers demonstrating crafts such as weaving, leatherworking, blacksmithing and more. A historian and volunteers will be available for questions in the Harmony-North Harmony Research Center. Horse-drawn and carriage rides along the walking trail will be available, as will food purchases.
'Crafted in Clay' Is Thursday At Pearl City Clay House
Starting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Pearl City Clay House in Jamestown, historian Vince Martonis will present “Crafted in Clay: Chautauqua County’s Pottery Heritage,” a free public history program exploring the region’s once-thriving pottery industry and the craftsmen who supplied homes and farms throughout Chautauqua County with locally made pottery. Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an optional hands-on pottery workshop using clay sourced from Fluvanna. Participants will recreate a pottery piece inspired by authentic nineteenth-century artifacts discussed during the presentation. The workshop is open to people of all ages and experience levels and there’s a small fee to cover the cost of the materials. To register, call the Fluvanna Historical Society at 716-804-7163
