Humane Society To Host Wellness, Whiskers Event Wednesday
The Chautauqua County Humane Society and WNY Whole Body Health will host Wellness & Whiskers, an evening dedicated to exploring the connection between human wellness and the well-being of pets, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2 at the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown. The evening's theme, "Healthy Together: What Our Pets Teach Us About Wellness and How We Can Return the Favor," will highlight everyday lessons pets offer about movement, rest, connection and presence. Attendees will learn about signs and symptoms of pet health, how pet wellness may reflect human wellness, foods that support whole body vitality, and healthy habits for the entire household. WNY Whole Body Health, a local leader in whole foods based clinical nutrition, will share insights into their mission and services. Their team specializes in personalized nutrition coaching designed to help individuals achieve optimal health while avoiding unnecessary pharmaceutical drugs and invasive procedures. Representatives from the Chautauqua County Humane Society will also be present to discuss the organization's mission, community programs, and the ongoing Building Our Future campaign, an initiative focused on essential facility upgrades to meet modern standards and support the shelter's work for generations to come. The Chautauqua County Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to empower the community to improve the lives of animals.
South, Center Lake Sewer Board To Meet Thursday
STOW – The South & Center Chautauqua Lake Sewer Districts administrative board will meet at noon Thursday, Sept. 3, in the North Harmony town administration building conference room, 5350 Stow Road, Stow. The public is welcome to attend.
Audubon To Host First Sunday Story Time Sept. 6
On Sunday, the Audubon Community Nature Center will host its next First Sunday Story Time for 2- to 8-year-old(s) and their adults from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Doors open at 12:20 p.m. The building is fully open at 1 p.m. The program and building admission are both free. Claire Certo will lead story time. After story time, those attending can visit the live animals, exhibits and Blue Heron Gift Shop indoors as well as go outside to observe the resident birds of prey, walk the trails, and play in the outdoor Nature Play Area. Reservations for Story Time are requested by Saturday, Sept. 5, by calling 716-569-2345 or go to AudubonCNC.org/September-first-sunday. Participation is limited to 15, walk-ins are welcome if there is room, and it's all free.
BPU Announces Labor Day Schedule
The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day. In addition, garbage and recycling will not be collected on Sept. 7. Due to the holiday, Monday's regular garbage and recycling collection will be delayed until Tuesday, Sept. 8. In the same way, Tuesday collection will be delayed until Wednesday; Wednesday collection will be moved to Thursday; Thursday to Friday; and Friday collection to Saturday, Sept. 12. The Yard Waste Site, 1001 Monroe St., will be open for its regular 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, hours even though it is the Labor Day holiday weekend. The site will be open as usual from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, but will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 12, to allow for Saturday collection of garbage and recycling. Although Customer Service is closed on Labor Day, customers can use the BPU's online and phone payment options. Payments by credit or debit card may be made online at www.jamestownnybpu.gov or by phone at 716-661-1660, option 3, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.A payment drop box is also available next to the Customer Service Office for check and money order payments only. Two other drop boxes are located at Tracy Plaza at City Hall and in the Jamestown Police Department vestibule on East Second Street. For reports of trouble for all BPU Divisions during non-business hours, customers may call 716-661-1640. During regular business hours, such calls may be made to BPU Customer Service at 716-661-1660.
