Chautauqua Lake Bridge To Close Evenings Starting Monday

The state Department of Transportation is advising motorists that the bridge carrying Interstate 86 over Chautauqua Lake between the North Harmony and Ellery will be closed in both directions from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning on Monday, Aug. 17, until Friday, Aug. 21, and at 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, until 7 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, as part of an ongoing rehabilitation project. Motorists should follow the posted detour utilizing Route 394 and Route 430.

Registration open for Agents of Hope golf tournament fundraiser

ERA Team VP Real Estate & Vacation Rentals is accepting registration for its 17th annual Agents of Hope Golf Tournament that will be held Aug. 26. at Chautauqua Golf Club. The tournament raises money for the ALS Association, with proceeds supporting research, advocacy, and resources for individuals and families affected by the disease. Over the past 16 years, the Agents of Hope Golf Tournament has raised more than $192,000 for the ALS Association, and organizers are looking forward to building on that success during this year’s event. Registration begins at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. Registration is $125 per golfer ($100 for Chautauqua Golf Club members) and includes golf, cart, lunch, refreshments, and dinner. “For 17 years, this tournament has been about more than golf--it’s been about hope, compassion, and coming together as a community to support families facing ALS,” said Bill Soffel, Broker/CEO of ERA Team VP Real Estate. “Every sponsor, golfer, volunteer, and donor plays a part in making a real difference. We’re incredibly grateful for the continued support and look forward to another memorable day of giving back.”

UPMC Chautauqua To Host Blood Drive Wednesday

UPMC Chautauqua will host a Community Blood Bank blood drive from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19. All donors receive a voucher for a free hot meal from the legion's auxiliary. Call 814-456-4206 to schedule an appointment. Appointments are encouraged to reduce wait times but are not required. Walk-ins will be taken as space allows. The Community Blood Bank partners with hospitals in Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York to provide blood for patients in need. Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good general health as well as have a valid photo ID. Prior to donating, those giving blood should eat a good, solid meal and drink at least 18 ounces of water. Walk-ins will be taken as space allows. Lakewood-Busti Golden Agers To Meet Aug 18

LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood-Busti Golden Agers will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Lakewood American Legion Post 1286. The meeting is the group's summer barbeque, prepared by members of the Lakewood American Legion. As discussed at the July meeting, members are going to bring $15 for this dinner, with $5 going to the treasury to build up the Golden Agers funds. Donations of yarn to create hats, mittens and scarves that are distributed to schools in the area and other agencies near the holidays are being accepted. Any individuals age 55 or older are welcome to attend a meeting. Annual dues are $10.

Ellington Library To Screen Celoron Amusement Park Film

ELLINGTON – The amusement park in Celoron was called the “Coney Island of Western New York” and featured a grand ballroom, boasted top-tier entertainment, a wooden roller coaster, and a 165-foot Ferris wheel called “The Phoenix." Established by the Broadhead family, Celoron Amusement Park operated from 1894 to 1962. On Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 6.p.m, the Fenton History Center will be presenting the Celoron Park Remembrance Film, based on the book by Thomas J. Goodwill, board president of the Fenton History Center. This free film will be shown at Ellington Farman Library, 760 Thornton Road, Ellington. Those with memories of the park are welcome to share them.
