Allegheny Outdoor Club To Ride, Hike, In Allegany State Park Sunday
SALAMANCA – The Allegheny Outdoor Club will host a bike ride or hike on Sunday, Aug. 9, at Allegany State Park, Salamanca. The group will meet at the Red House area before the park entrance off I-86 at 2 p.m. Pat Spicer is the leader of this activity.
Hooman To Perform Sunday In Cassadaga
CASSADAGA - Hooman will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Cassadaga Lakes Summer Concert Series. The band performs rhythm and blues, jazz, Motown and southern rock. Beach parking is limited. Park at the nearby library, church or firehall if able to do so. In case of inclement weather, this concert will be moved to the Cassadaga Fire Hall on 22 Mill St. or American Legion Post 1280 on 228 Maple Ave. For more information, call 716-665-8855.
Audubon To Hold Little Explorers Aug. 8
"Insects and Invertebrates" is the subject of the next Audubon Community Nature Center Little Explorers from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, for children ages 3 to 8 and parents and guardians. After a short indoor lesson where those attending can discover similarities and differences among invertebrates and meet some real insects, the group will go outside to search for these animals at different stages of their life cycles by flipping logs and looking along the edges of ponds. A snack is provided after the hike and a craft is offered if there is time. Little Explorers takes place regardless of the weather, so dress accordingly. The fee is $12 for adults, $9 for children ages 3 to 8 and Nature Center members. Enrollment is limited to 15 children, 30 participants total. Prendergast Library Summer Movie Start Friday
The James Prendergast Library will host three summer movies in August on Fridays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The public is welcome to drop in, watch a movie and eat snacks provided at no cost. August movies will follow the library's Summer Reading Program dinosaur theme. On Aug. 7, the library will show "The Land Before Time" followed by "The Good Dinosaur" on Aug. 14 and "The Flintstones” on Aug. 21. There is no cost to attend this program. Busti Historical Society Campus Open Fridays
BUSTI – The Busti Historic Society campus that includes the 1836 mill, 1846 Miller’s house and the museum is open Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is by donation. Large groups, or those wishing to see the mill in action, can make plans to visit by calling 716-483-3670 or emailing bustihistorical.edu@gmail.com. The Kids Day Program is on Friday, Aug. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon. Children (and a parent or guardian) 10 and under are invited to tour the museum, play historic games and make a craft. The August class is beginner weaving and will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8. The cost for the class is $25 per person, $20 for society members. Supplies are included.
