Mental Health Association To Hold Barbecue Today
The Mental Health Association in Chautauqua County invites family, friends and community members to its annual barbecue from 1 to 2 p.m. today, July 21, behind the MHA's Jamestown recovery center in the rear of the Gateway Center at 31 Water St. Staff will prepare and serve hot dogs, beverages, sides, popcorn, and more. "This is an opportunity to celebrate the successes, big and small, of MHA's participants, staff, and community and recognize that mental wellness is part of everyday life," said Michael Nordin, MHA executive director. The barbecue is free and held regardless of weather. Clicking through MHACHQ.org/bbq for more information and to register helps with planning, but everyone is welcome, even without registering.
Mall To Host Blood Drives July 23, July 31
LAKEWOOD – The Chautauqua Mall will host a pair of American Red Cross blood drives from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. July 23 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 31. To make an appointment or for more information, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App. visit RedCrossBlood.org. call 1-800-733-2767 or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed 1o ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 16 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Reg Lenna To Screen Film Wednesday
The Reg Lenna Center for the Arts will show the film Power Ballad at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 22. When Rick (Paul Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, meets fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) during a gig, the two bond over music and a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick's songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves – even if it means risking everything he cares about. Power Ballad is rated R and is 99 minutes long. Tickets for most Movies at The Reg are $8 in-person at the box office and $10 online (reglenna.com) and by phone at 716-484-7070. Family showings are $7 in-person at the box office and $9 online and by phone. Special engagements are priced differently. The theater and box office at The Reg are located at 116 E. Third St., Jamestown. The box office is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 5 p.m. and one hour before movies and events.
Quilts Of Valor Group To Host Booth At County Fair
The Chautauqua Region Quilts of Valor group has been busy presenting quilts to veterans this month. Ten quilts were presented at Brocton Tri-Parish Church on Saturday, July 18, and another will be awarded at the Chautauqua County Fair on Wednesday, July 22. The group has been invited to have a booth in the 4-H sewing barn for the entire week of the fair, which runs Tuesday, July 21, through Sunday, July 26. Information about the group and quilt request forms will be available and, at times, members will be present to answer questions. The next meeting will be Sept. September 11 at Quilters’ Haven and Yarn Shop in Lakewood.
Operation Christmas Child To Host 'Beyond The Box' July 23
Operation Christmas Child will be hosting an "Beyond the Box" event on July 23 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
at Kidder Memorial Church, 385 S. Main St., Jamestown. Todd and Vickie LeRoy, longtime Operation Christmas Child area coordinators, will share what happens “beyond the box” for everyone who packs a shoebox, along with their vision and goals for this year. Attendees will be able to see Operation Christmas Child’s impact on children and communities around the world and learn how they can help the charitable organization make a greater impact.
