Bridge To Be Closed Overnight Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
The state Department of Transportation is advising motorists that the bridge carrying Interstate 86 eastbound over Chautauqua Lake between North Harmony and Ellery will be closed as part of an ongoing rehabilitation project from 3 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 3 to 6 a.m. Thursday, July 16, and 3 to 6 a.m. Friday, July 17. Motorists should follow the posted detour utilizing Route 394 and Route 430.
Watts Flats UMC To Host Chicken Dinner Wednesday
WATTS FLATS – Watts Flats United Methodist Church, 866 Blockville-Watts Flats Road, Ashville, will host a barbecue chicken dinner with desserts on Wednesday, July 15, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.. The dinner will cost $10 with all proceeds to benefit the church.
Falconer sets information session
FALCONER — Business owners and operators are requested to be at The Falconer Public Library at 3 p.m. on Wednesday for an information session highlighting the Greater Jamestown Zone Capital Corporation, which the village of Falconer is part of. The speaker will be Aili Makuch, City of Jamestown Economic Development Coordinator. Light refreshments will be served.
Performance Of ‘The Gin Game’ Begins Friday In Westfield
WESTFIELD – Directed by David Oliver, D.L. Coburn’s “The Gin Game” runs at Lake Shore Center For The Arts in Westfield on July 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26. On the back porch of a nursing home, new residents Weller and Fonsia, played by Tom Loughlin and ChrisTina Rausa, begin to know one another over games of gin. The porch’s stillness contrasts with the lively world inside, while visitors’ day quietly underscores their isolation. As the games repeat, Weller counts cards, ridicules fellow residents, resents being treated “like a child,” and grows increasingly furious at losing, while Fonsia keeps calling “gin” hand after hand. Artists Society To Meet Today In Ashville
ASHVILLE – The Chautauqua Society of Artists will meet today, July 14, at the Ashville Library from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The project will be stone coasters using colored napkins or tissue papers. Those attending should bring a brush, any colored tissue paper materials and glue or Modge-podge.
Master Gardeners to host Evening In Garden July 15
The Chautauqua County Master Gardeners will host their next Evening In The Garden on Wednesday, July 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the new demonstration garden at 301 James St., Jamestown, in front of the JCC Science Building. The free educational event will feature presentations and activities focused on attracting and supporting hummingbirds and creating productive garden spaces. Presentations include: Hummingbirds: Creating a Backyard Haven — presented by Dinah Hovey and Colleen Brentley; Hummingbird Activity –20 participants will have the opportunity to create a hummingbird swing to take home, led by Dinah Hovey and Colleen Brentley; and Companion Planting — presented by Heather Greenfield and Rose Colucci. In addition, all attendees will have the opportunity to enter a drawing to win a special hummingbird-themed gift basket. The event will be held rain or shine. Reg Lenna To Screen ‘Tuner’ July 15
The Reg Lenna Center for the Arts will screen the film Tuner at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 15. The film stars Leo Woodall and Dustin Hoffman. A gifted piano tuner’s meticulous skills for tuning pianos lead him to discover an unexpected aptitude for cracking safes, turning his life upside down. Tuner is rated R and is 109 minutes long. Upcoming Movies at The Reg include Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas in the musical comedy drama Power Ballad (July 22 at 7 p.m.), the Australian romantic supernatural film Leviticus (July 24 at 7 p.m.), Hayley Kiyoko’s film adaptation of her book, Girls Like Girls (July 29 at 7 p.m.) and Steven Spielberg’s science fiction thriller Disclosure Day (July 31 at 7 p.m. Tickets for most Movies at The Reg are $8 in-person at the box office and $10 online (reglenna.com) and by phone at 716-484-7070.
