Packard Family Ties To Area To Be Discussed

BUSTI – The Busti Historical Society ‘s May talk is about James Ward Packard of Lakewood, the Packard Car Co., and his life beyond the motorcar. The talk is Sunday, May 31, at 2 p.m. Presented by Paul Johnson, the local authority on the Packard family’s ties to Lakewood. The talk will be presented outdoors in the pavilion. Those attending should bring a lawn chair. The society will have chairs available. In the event of inclement weather the talk will move indoors to the meeting room. Admission and parking are free; donations are accepted.

Allegheny Outdoor Club To Hike Sunday

On Sunday, May 31, the Allegheny Outdoor Club will hike in Cook Forest on part of the Baker Trail. The destination is the old Henrys Run Sawmill Dam. It will be 3 miles total out and back. The trail is hilly, narrow, and has lots of rocks and roots. Parking at the trailhead is limited, so participants need to plan on ride sharing. The group will meet at Musante Street, Warren, at 1 p.m. Tom Patterson is the leader for this activity.

County Parks Commission To Meet Thursday

The Chautauqua County Parks Commission will meet Thursday, May 28, at 10 a.m. at the Chautauqua County Airport-Jamestown. The public is invited to attend.

JHS Closet Hosting Donation Drive June 1

A collection drive at Jamestown High School, in support of the JHS Closet, is scheduled for Monday, June 1, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Those donating should use the JHS Pool Doors entrance located at the Second Street exit on Foote Avenue. Items needed, either in new, gently used or good condition, include leggings, sweatpants, joggers, gym shorts, hoodies, new underwear and socks. Nonperishable food such as: Granola bars, Pop Tarts, SpaghettiOs, snack size chips, fruit cups and bottled water are needed, as are shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, toothbrush, tooth paste, mouth wash, and school supplies such as pens, pencils, backpacks and notebooks. Monetary donations can also be made as well. Checks to the Gotcha Fund will be accepted. The money is used to help with educational opportunities such as AP exam costs, field trips and educational camps.

Reg Lenna To Screen ‘I Swear’ June 3

The Reg Lenna Center for the Arts will screen the film I Swear at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 3. The film is based on the life story of Tourette’s Syndrome campaigner John Davidson. Set within 1980s Britain, the story follows him throughout his troubled teens and early adulthood, and explores this little known and entirely misunderstood condition, along with his attempts to live a ‘normal’ life against the odds. I Swear is rated R and is 121 minutes long. Tickets for most Movies at The Reg are $8 in-person at the box office and $10 online at reglenna.com or by calling 716-484-7070. Family showings are $7 in-person at the box office and $9 online and by phone. The theater and box office at The Reg are located at 116 E. Third St. in Jamestown. The box office is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 5 p.m. and one hour before movies and events.
