Bemus Point Historical Society To Meet
2026 marks not only the 70th anniversary of the premiere of the film Forever, Darling, featuring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, but also the historic homecoming event that took place in Jamestown when Lucy and Desi premiered the film at The Palace Theater, now known as the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts. The Bemus Point Historical Society Guest Speaker Series continues on Wednesday, April 8, as Ashley Senske, collections manager for the National Comedy Center and Lucy Desi Museum, will talk about the First Couple of Comedy’s whirlwind trip to Lucy’s hometown and the significance of their decision to include it as part of the world premiere tour. The event is free and open to the public beginning at 7 p.m. at the Bemus Point Village Hall on Alburtus Avenue. The adjacent Bemus Point Historical Society Museum will be open at 6:30 p.m. for touring.
Mall Blood Drive To Be Held Thursday
LAKEWOOD – The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at the Chautauqua Mall, 318 E Fairmount Ave. To make an appointment or for more information, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App. visit RedCrossBlood.org. call 1-800-733-2767 or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 16 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Overnight Bridge Closure April 8-9
The state Department of Transportation is advising motorists that the bridge carrying Interstate 86 eastbound over Chautauqua Lake, between the towns of North Harmony and Ellery, will be closed from 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, to 6 a.m. Thursday, April 9, to facilitate an ongoing rehabilitation project. Motorists should follow the posted detour utilizing Route 394 and Route 430.
