First Lutheran To Host Wednesday Lenten Service

The Rev. Laura Csellak, pastor at Lutheran of Jamestown, will be the guest speaker at the midweek noon-time Lenten Service at First Lutheran Church in Jamestown on Wednesday, March 4. Kimberly King will be the organist. The Lenten services are sponsored by the Southwestern Conference Lutherans and will be held in the Memorial Chapel which is handicap accessible. The 12 p.m. service will be followed by a soup, salad, and homemade pie luncheon in the church parlors for a nominal fee. The luncheon is sponsored by the First Lutheran Altar Society. The public is welcome to attend.

Lakewood Rod And Gun Auxiliary To Gather

LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood Rod and Gun Auxiliary will resume monthly meetings in March. The auxiliary board will meet Thursday, March 5, at 4 p.m. All ladies with memberships are invited to attend the general Auxiliary meeting March 10 at 4 p.m. in the board room at the Rod and Gun Club. Scholarship applications are now available for 2026. Applicants must be a child or grandchild of an Auxiliary member in good standing to qualify. Applications will be available at the March meeting or by contacting Arline Hazenberg at 716-488-0553. Completed applications must be received by May 1, 2026, to be considered.

Mayville Senior Citizens To Meet Thursday

MAYVILLE – The Mayville Senior Citizens will meet Thursday, March 5, at the VFW in Mayville. Earl Freling, a practicing chiropractor from Ripley, will be the speaker. At the group’s last meeting Melissa Bartok, director of the Mayville Library, for 16 years, was the guest speaker. She gave a very informative and interesting speech on the history of the library and its present-day activities. Seventeen people won door prizes, with Betty Cheney winning the lottery. Members were encouraged to attend the Office for the Aging Expo being held in Fredonia on May 21. Those attending Thursday’s meeting are asked to bring a dish to pass.

Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary To Gather

March 10

CASSADAGA – The Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held an informal meeting recently with nine members attending. The previous meeting minutes were read and the treasurers report given. Paula Pattison reported that the auxiliary held one funeral luncheon for the family of Squadron 1280 member Kurt Scott. Pattison continues to send get well and sympathy cards as needed. Unit 1280’s membership will be at 94% paid for the year, with the auxiliary still taking 2026 dues of $30 that can be sent to Unit 1280, 228 Maple Ave., Cassadaga NY 14718 or dropped off at the post. Under direction of Brandi Meacham, the auxiliary held interviews for two Empire Girl State applicants, with Gabriele Cunningham chosen as the auxiliary’s candidate and Anna Burlingame as the alternate. Unit members made 86 sucker Valentines they were distributed at the VA. Plans are in the works for the auxiliary’s annual rummage sale May 16. Unit 1280’s next meeting will be Tuesday, March 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the post.
