First Lutheran To Host Midweek Services

The Rev. Timothy Hoyer, pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Falconer and Tree of Life Lutheran Church in Jamestown, will be the guest speaker at the midweek noon-time Lenten Service at the First Lutheran Church Jamestown on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Kimberly King will be the organist. The Lenten services are sponsored by the Southwestern Conference Lutherans and will be held in the Memorial Chapel which is handicap accessible. The 12 p.m. service will be followed by a soup, salad, and homemade pie luncheon in the church parlors for a nominal fee. The luncheon is sponsored by the First Lutheran Altar Society. The public is welcome to attend.

Reg Lenna To Screen Films Wednesday, Friday

The Reg Lenna Center for the Arts will screen the films Eternity and The Choral this week. Eternity (Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m.) stars Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller and Callum Turner. In an afterlife where souls have one week to decide where to spend eternity, Joan (Olsen) is faced with the impossible choice between the man she spent her life with (Teller) and her first love (Turner), who died young and has waited decades for her to arrive. Eternity is rated PG-13 and is 114 minutes long. Ralph Fienes stars in The Choral (Friday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.) As war rages on the Western Front, the Choral Society in Ramsden, Yorkshire has lost most of its men to the army. The Choral’s ambitious committee, determined to press ahead, decides to recruit local young males to swell their ranks and engage a new chorus master – Dr. Henry Guthrie (Fiennes). As conscription papers start to arrive, the whole community discovers that the best response to the chaos that is laying waste to their lives is to make music together. The Choral is rated R and is 114 minutes long. Tickets for most Movies at The Reg are $8 in-person at the box office and $10 online (reglenna.com) and by phone at 716-484-7070. Family showings are $7 in-person at the box office and $9 online and by phone. Special engagements are priced differently. The box office is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 5 p.m. and one hour before movies and events.

Legion Post 556 Auxiliary Meets

The American Legion Samuel L. Derby Auxiliary Unit 556 recently met. Interviews were held for Girls State and Amelia Matteson-Garza from Frewsburg was chosen. All veterans at The Magnolia received pajama bottoms, socks, throw blankets, and games for Christmas. Membership is currently at 85%. A $500 donation to Stop Soldier Suicide was approved and presented on February 15. The spring Meat, Gun, and Basket raffle will be held on March 28. Members were encouraged to ask businesses for contributions. County reports are due March 1, with the county meeting being held on March 12 in Lakewood. Poppy Days will be held on May 14-16. The next meeting is March 17, which is the first reading of the nomination of officers. The American Legion Samuel L. Derby Auxiliary Unit 556 meets the third Tuesday of each month. All members are encouraged to attend.
