Reg Lenna To Screen Films

The Reg Lenna Center for the Arts will screen the film Bugonia at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29. The film has been nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actress – Emma Stone. Two conspiracy obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO (Stone) of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth. Bugonia is rated R and is 119 minutes long. The theater will also screen the film Nuremberg at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30. The film is the screen adaptation of Jack El-Hai\’s historical novel “The Nazi and the Psychiatrist.” The Allies, led by the unyielding chief prosecutor, Robert H. Jackson (Michael Shannon), have the task of ensuring the Nazi regime answers for the unveiled horrors of the Holocaust while a US Army psychiatrist (Rami Malek) is locked in a dramatic psychological duel with former Reichsmarschall Herman Goering (Russell Crowe).Nuremberg is rated R and is 158 minutes long. Following the film, El-Hai will appear live on stage to discuss his research and the fascinating real-life relationship between Kelley and the defendants he studied, as well as how Nuremberg brings this history to life on screen, what Hollywood got right, and what it reimagined. The screening is presented in partnership with Robert H. Jackson Center.

UPMC To Host SOUPer Bowl Fundraiser

CELORON – The UPMC Chautauqua Laboratory Science Program and the WCA Foundation will host for SOUPer Bowl Sunday XI from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Celoron American Legion, 26 Jackson Ave., West Ellicott. Area restaurants will compete for the title of Best Soup in Southern Chautauqua County. Taste soups from area restaurants and judge who will be this year’s title holder. Last year, Kidder Farm Stand took the title for its chicken soup. Tickets can be purchased at the Celoron American Legion or at the WCA Foundation at wcafoundationjamestown.org . Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under pre-sale or $15 for adults and $5 for children at the door. Sponsors also include Media One Group and WellNow. For sponsorship information or to participate, contact the WCA Foundation at 716-664-8665. Proceeds of the event will benefit UPMC Chautauqua Laboratory Science Program.

Legion Post 1280 Auxiliary To Meet

CASSADAGA – The Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 met recently with all officers present. The previous meeting minutes were read, and the treasurer’s report given. Paula Pattison said she continues to send get well and sympathy cards as needed. Unit 1280 membership is currently at 80% paid for the year and is still accepting 2026 dues. Dues are $30 and can be paid at the bar or sent to Sally Lawson, 228 Maple Ave., Cassadaga, NY 14718. In conjunction with the Cassadaga Village Winterfest from Jan. 31 to Feb. 1, the Cassadaga Legion is sponsoring the “Untouchables Band” Friday, Jan. 30, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Cassadaga Legion Hall, 228 Maple Avenue, Cassadaga. There will be a vendor show at the legion, Saturday, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 1, a Cornhole Tournament will be held in the legion hall. Correspondence was read, with thank you notes from the Dunkirk Lighthouse Purple Heart Trail donation, local food pantries and Citizens for a Better Cassadaga. Members present donated to the ALA Department President’s Project which is divided between the Empire Girl’s State Program and the Military Women’s Memorial next to Arlington Cemetery. Weather permitting, the next auxiliary meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the post.
