Wednesday JLDC Meeting Canceled
Due to a lack of agenda items, the Jamestown Local Development Corporation meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 17, has been canceled. The next meeting will be at the regularly scheduled time on Wednesday, Jan. 21. For more information call Aili Makuch, city economic development coordinator, at 716-338-0040.
Frewsburg School Board To Meet Wednesday
FREWSBURG – Due to inclement weather, the December Frewsburg Central School Board of Education postponed last week has been rescheduled to Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the middle-high school library. The public is welcome to attend.
Prendergast Library Board To Meet Thursday
The Prendergast Library’s next Board of Trustees meeting will be held at the library on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 5:15 p.m. Board meetings are open to the public.
Samuel Derby Post 556 Auxiliary Meets
FREWSBURG – The American Legion Auxiliary Samuel L. Derby Unit 556 recently held its November meeting with 14 members attending. Chaplain Dee Dee Liden sent cards to Jennie Gage, Verna Hoover and Chris Alabaugh. Members are interested in starting a prayer chain. One member volunteered two hours at the food pantry, and two members volunteered a total of three hours updating the scholarship form. The auxiliary will provide Christmas presents to a family of five girls. The Department of New York has revised its scholarship forms. Girl State candidates must now be selected by Feb. 1 and fully registered by Feb. 28. Unit 556 will have one girl this year. Toiletries that are still needed for Christmas for the nine veterans at The Magnolia include: shampoo, deodorant, combs, hankies, big print word search, pens and pencils, toothbrushes, shaving cream and razors. President Verna Hoover thanked the members who helped at Halloween and the Early Bird Breakfast, and in accepting the donated gifts from the C-K Hog Owners Group. This year, the auxiliary will give each child a wooden ornament to decorate and place on the tree. Coan’s Dusty Acres in Frewsburg will be donating a Christmas tree, as well as ornaments. In honor of the 100th birthday of the Auxiliary’s charter on November 16; Hoover presented the members with a notepad and pen, as well as a Christmas ornament. The American Legion Auxiliary Samuel L. Derby Unit 556 meets the third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m., and all members are encouraged to attend.
Fourth Sunday Of Advent To Be Observed
First Lutheran Church will observe the Fourth Sunday of Advent on Dec. 21 at the 9 and 11 a.m. worship services. The Rev. Lee M. Miller II, Bishop of the Upper New York Synod, will be the pulpit guest and worship celebrant. Holy Communion will be observed at both services. The First Lutheran Choir under the direction of Brian A. Bogey, will sing “Infant Holy, Infant Lowly” arranged by Howard Helvy. The public is welcome to attend.
