First Lutheran Community Store Slates Bag Sale
The First Lutheran Community Store will have a Merry Christmas $3 clothing bag sale Dec. 9, Dec. 11 Dec. 16 and Dec. 18 on the third floor of the Educational Building. Enter the awning door to access the elevator. Clothing and houseware donations are accepted. No electronics are accepted. The public is welcome.
Cassadaga Library To Host Program On Alzheimers And Holidays
CASSADAGA – Dealing with Alzheimer’s and the Holidays will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the Seymour Library, Cassadaga Branch, 18 Maple Ave., Cassadaga. The holidays are often filled with sharing, laughter and memories, but they can also bring stress, disappointment or sadness. A person living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia may feel a special sense of loss during the holidays because of the changes he or she has experienced. Caregivers may feel overwhelmed by maintaining traditions while providing care and adhering to safety precautions. The session will include tips and ideas for safely enjoying time with family and friends during the holidays.
Prendergast Library Offering Free Gingerbread Workshop, Kits
On Saturday, Dec. 13, the Prendergast Library will host its annual Gingerbread Workshop with two sessions at noon and 2 p.m. Those attending can make a graham cracker gingerbread house, decorate ornaments and then use the library’s Makerspace, which will be open for play. Those who can’t attend the Dec. 13 event can sign up to reserve a take-home gingerbread kit for children. There is a limit of one kit per child for children ages 18 and under. The program is for children and teens. Children 8 and under require adult supervision. Registration is recommended; walk-ins are not guaranteed a kit. Auxiliary Post 1280 Meets
CASSADAGA – Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 met recently. Chaplain Paula Pattison reported that she had sent get well and sympathy cards to members as needed. Membership chairperson Sally Lawson is now accepting 2025 dues. Unit 1280’s quota for 2025 is 185 paid members, currently the post is at 50% paid for 2025. Dues are $30, and can be paid by mail, or they can be dropped off at the Post. Members of Unit 1280 made food for the joint County Legion meeting. The annual vendor showcase/bake sale had 22 vendors while unit members passed out candy, books and craft kits to more than 150 children for Halloween. A collection box has been placed at the post for the Blue Star Mothers annual Christmas Care packages for troops stationed overseas. Items will be collected through Dec. 2 with a list of items being collected available at the post. Unit 1280 members with the Sons of the Legion held a veterans dinner and ceremony on Nov. 10 with veterans recognized from as early as World War II. Members present voted to donate money to a benefit to two local food pantries to go along with the food items that were collected at the Post, the Blue Star Mothers to help with postage, the Purple Heart Trail and the Healing for Heroes project. The next auxiliary meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9.
