Land Bank Board To Meet Nov. 12

MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Land Bank Corporation’s monthly board meeting will take place in Room 331 of the Gerace Office Building, Mayville, at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, with the option to view live via YouTube. Land bank meetings are conducted to discuss business associated with the acquisition and potential sale of property by CCLBC and other official business as required. Historian To Speak At Bemus Point Historical Society Meeting Nov. 12

BEMUS POINT – The Bemus Point Historical Society Guest Speaker Series continues Wednesday, Nov. 12, as historian Todd Langworthy provides a presentation through historical interpretation of Oliver Hudson Kelley, one of the key founders of the National Grange of the Order of Patrons and Husbandry and advocate for its’ mission to promote the social and spiritual well-being of farm families and the advancement of agricultural practices. Langworthy will discuss Kelley through a first-person perspective and share a history of the grange on a national, regional, and local level, including his visit to Chautauqua County to assist in the formation of Grange 1 in Fredonia, which was established on April 16, 1868. The event is free and open to the public beginning at 7 p.m. at the Bemus Point Village Hall on Alburtus Avenue. The adjacent Bemus Point Historical Society Museum will be open at 6:30 p.m. for touring prior to the presentation.

To Host Craft Bazaar Nov. 14

Area residents can do some holiday shopping while learning about the programs The Resource Center offers to people with disabilities when TRC hosts its 26th Craft Bazaar on Friday, Nov. 14. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first floor of TRC’s Michael J. Raymond Center, 75 Jones & Gifford Avenue in Jamestown. Free, off-street parking is available in the lot across the road. Crafts and artwork produced by TRC staff and self-advocates will be available for a suggested donation. Baked goods and chili will be available for purchase, and there will be a drawing for donated prizes. Proceeds from the event will support TRC’s day habilitation programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. For more information, phone 716-661-4800.

Sinclairville Library To Host Poetry Class, Workshop

SINCLAIRVILLE – The Sinclairville Library will host a poetry class and workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, led by John Brantingham, professor emeritus of creative writing. Brantingham will help those attending write poetry and publish it in magazines. Students have published in The New Yorker, McSweeneys, and The Paris Review, among other places. The class is free. A poetry reading with poets T. Anders Carson and Kendall Johnson will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the library. The public is welcome to attend.
