Inspire Good Of WNY INC. Begins Plans For 2026 Mayville Festival

MAYVILLE – Inspire Good of WNY INC. is starting to plan the 39th year of the Mayville Winter Festival, scheduled to take place on President’s Day Weekend, Feb. 13-15. The current weather forecast for the winter appears to be favorable, with organizers planning to build a castle. Dozens of volunteers across different areas of the event are needed to serve on sub-committees. Those interested are welcome to attend the first planning meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, in the Carlson Building at Lakeside Park, Mayville.

Cornell Cooperative Extension To Host Composting Workshop

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua for will host a hands-on composting workshop on Thursday, Oct. 2, from 6 to 7 p.m. Natural Resources Educator Eliza Hensel will demonstrate how to build a successful compost pile and discuss compost maintenance methods. The first and 25 attendees will go home with a free compost bin. Through this class, participants will learn the process of composting, how to use different compost feedstocks, understanding the microbial action within a healthy compost pile as well as how to construct a well-balanced pile. In the second half of the class, there will be a hands-on demonstration and the opportunity to build a compost pile together. Participants are encouraged to bring their own compostable materials from home to the workshop. The workshop will be held at the CCE Chautauqua office at the JCC Carnahan Center, 525 Falconer St., Jamestown. Boys, Girls Club To Begin Toddler Sports Program

The Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys & Girls Club is offering a toddler sports program. The first session is T-Ball and is for 3- and 4-year-olds. Classes will meet from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturdays, Oct. 4., Oct. 11, and Oct. 18. Christina Kebort will be leading the program. The cost of the class is $10 for all three sessions. Cornell Cooperative To Host Free Workshop Oct. 16

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County invites community members to participate in a free Seeds for Success-ion workshop to teach succession planting, food preservation techniques and promoting healthy eating habits. The workshop will be offered on Thursday, Oct. 16, from 6 to 7 p.m. During the workshop, participants will learn the basics of succession planting and how to extend their harvest well into the colder months. Participants will take home a spinach starter tray from the demo, complete with a mix of vegetable seeds and extra space to encourage planting. The workshop will be held at CCE-Chautauqua in the JCC Carnahan Center, 525 Falconer St., Jamestown. The program is open to all community members interested in home gardening, healthy cooking and food preservation. Materials will be provided, and space will be limited. South Dayton Receives Drinking Water System Improvement Grant

SOUTH DAYTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $500,000 to the village of South Dayton for drinking water system improvements. “I’m proud to deliver $500,000 to upgrade South Dayton’s water system,” said U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy, R-23, in a news release. “This significant investment in South Dayton’s infrastructure will help modernize their stormwater collection system to protect public health. This project was one of my top priorities and since securing the funding last year, I have been pushing to get it across the finish line. I’m thrilled that it’s now a reality for the residents of South Dayton.”
