Southwestern School District Residents Receive Incorrect Tax Bills

Southwestern Central School District recently mailed school tax bills, which most residents have already received. Due to a post office error, incorrect bills that were postmarked Aug. 28, 2025, were mistakenly mailed afterward. School district officials say residents should disregard any bills dated Aug. 28, 2025, and pay only the correctly issued ones.

Chautauqua Town Historical Society To Host Speaker

MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua Town Historical Society will host Mayville resident Mary Elliott Bradford at its monthly meeting Thursday, Sept. 18 in the Veteran’s Memorial Meeting Room in the Chautauqua Town Hall, 2 Academy Street, Mayville. Bradford will focus on the Elliott family, local residents since the 1850s. Both the Elliotts and the Bradfords were originally from New England as were many of the early settlers in this region. The original house was on South Erie Street. The Elliott clan now numbers some hundred descendants of the original family, and have played various parts in the evolution of Mayville. Of particular interest should be the Elliott role as recent owners of the Point Chautauqua golf course, and its subsequent current trajectory.

The Historical Society’s regular season runs from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend, when the Mayville Depot Museum is open afternoons Friday through Sunday (1-5 p.m.) and monthly historical talks during the regular season, third Thursday of the month. This off-season talk is scheduled for 7 pm, and will be accompanied by a slide show presentation. Free and open to the public. All are invited to attend.
