Lakewood-Busti Golden Agers To Meet Sept. 16

LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood-Busti Golden Agers will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Lakewood American Legion Post 1286. The guest speaker for this program will focus on Alzheimer’s disease. Refreshments will be provided. The next monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 21, which will be the group’s hobo dinner, provided by the post. Members are reminded that this dinner should be paid for at the September meeting.

Myers Library Board To Meet September 16

FREWSBURG – The Myers Memorial Library board in Frewsburg will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16. The public is welcome to attend.

Falconer Clerk/Treasurer Office Closed This Week

FALCONER – The Village of Falconer Clerk/Treasurer offices will be closed the week of Sept. 15-19 to attend NYCOM training. The Code Office will remain open during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4;30 p.m. The office is closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.

Cassadaga Library Hosting

Calligraphy Workshop

CASSADAGA – The Seymour – Cassadaga Library will host a calligraphy workshop on Sept. 17 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. A demonstration in lettering arts, the interactive, hands-on event will allow participants to use various styles of pen and inks. The demonstration aims to determine a series of classes in selected disciplines to be taught in the future, so all interested individuals are encouraged to attend. Patricia Greenstein, a Cassadaga resident and calligrapher, will lead the event. Greenstein has studied calligraphy for more than 13 years and has completed multiple classes led by master penmen and calligraphers. She is a member of the International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting (IAMPETH), as well as the Pittsburgh Calligraphy Guild. Prior registration for the workshop is required by calling the library at 716-595-3822 or in person at 18 Maple Ave., Cassadaga.

Watts Flats UMC To Host Dinner Wednesday

WATTS FLATS – The Watts Flats United Methodist Church, 866 Blockville-Watts Flats Road, Ashville, will be having a ham and scalloped potato dinner with desserts on Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.. The dinner will cost $10 with all proceeds to benefit the church.

National Guard Soldiers Earn Promotions

Major General Ray Shields, the Adjutant General for the State of New York, recently announced the promotion of two local members of the New York Army National Guard. Samuel Parkinson of Jamestown, assigned to the Company C, NY Recruiting & Retention Battalion, received a promotion to the rank of private first class while

Ian Conner of Falconer, assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, received a promotion to the rank of staff sergeant.
