Lakewood-Busti Golden Agers To Gather Today
LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood-Busti Golden Agers will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Lakewood American Legion Post 1286. This meeting is the group’s chicken barbecue lunch. The cost of the lunch is $8 and should have been paid for at the July meeting.
Jamestown Local Development Corp. To Meet Aug. 20
The Jamestown Local Development Corp. will meet at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 20 in the mayor’s fourth floor conference room in City Hall. Items on the agenda include a loan request from Ramsey Agriculture and a loan request from Shift Fynancial Inc. The public is welcome to attend.

Watts Flats UMC To Host Dinner Aug. 20
WATTS FLATS – The Watts Flats United Methodist Church, 866 Blockville-Watts Flats Road, will host a chicken and biscuit dinner with desserts on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The dinner will cost $10 with all proceeds to benefit the church.
Master Gardeners To Host Evening In Garden Aug. 20
Cornell Cooperative Extension-Chautauqua Master Gardener volunteers will host the “Evening in the Garden” on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Curtis Street Community Garden in Jamestown. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served and guests are asked to bring their own chairs. The garden is located on Curtis Street in Jamestown, near JCC’s tennis courts. No reservations are needed, but questions or additional information or accommodations can be made by calling Katelyn Walley-Stoll, ag team leader, at 716-664-9502, ext. 202, or emailing kaw249@cornell.edu. Leading the event will be CCE-Chautauqua Master Gardener volunteers Dinah Hovey and Laura Marsala. They will share tips on preparing a garden for the winter season, including soil preparation and fertilizing, tool care, basic pruning, and the use of a cold frame to extend the season. They will also share guidance for utilizing cover crops and no-till methods to improve soil quality and drought resistance while decreasing weed pressure.
Grape Program To Host Mock Truck Inspection Aug. 20
PORTLAND – The Lake Erie Regional Grape Program will host a mock truck inspection day at from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 20, at CLEREL, 6592 W. Main Road, Portland. This year Trooper Andrew Lawrence will be giving a classroom type presentation which outlines why inspections are done and what the troopers are looking for as well as how to prepare a fleet and drivers to pass inspections. There will be two trucks on site. Attendance is encouraged for those hauling grapes and grain. A mock inspection will be done on each truck/trailer following the presentation.
