Jamestown School Board To Meet Today

The Jamestown Public School District Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. today, Aug. 12, in the boardroom of the administration building at 197 Martin Road, Jamestown. The public is welcome to attend.

South,Center Chautauqua Lake Sewer Board To Meet Wednesday

The Administrative Board of the South & Center Chautauqua Lake Sewer Districts will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, in the Water Pollution Control Facility in Celoron. The public is welcome to attend.

Quilt Guild To Gather Wednesday In Busti

BUSTI – The Chautauqua Region Quilt Guild will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at the Busti 5 Corners Community Church, the former Busti Federated Church. The group will hold its annual silent auction, so the schedule is different than usual. There is no community sew this month. Items for the auction will be accepted from 1 to 4 p.m. so the committee has time to process the donations. Bids will be accepted upon members’ arrival until the meeting begins. Refreshments will be available from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Members will also begin making pillowcases for the Boys and Girls Club. They can be brought to the September, October and November meetings.

Fenton To Host Discussion Of County’s First WWII Casualty

The Fenton History Center’s August talk on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 1 p.m. is about John Henry Mann from Stow, N.Y., who was killed at Hickam Field on December 7, 1942. He was the first casualty of World War II from Chautauqua County. Last October the Fenton History Center’s research team made contact with the family of one of his comrades and have been following his story since. In June center officials received information that Mann’s remains have been identified and his family is making plans to bring him home. Janet Wahlberg, Fenton History Center board vice president and researcher, will present her findings on the topic. The event is free and open to the public.

Allen Park Women’s Club To Host BBQ

A drive-through chicken barbecue will be held in the park on Aug. 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the former Allen Park Ice Arena with tickets available from the concession stand or any Allen Park Women’s Club member.

Camp Gross Golf Tourney, Basket Giveaway Is Aug. 15-16

The seventh annual Dr. John R. & Alona Forbes Golf Tournament and Basket Raffle will be held Friday, Aug. 15, and Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Cassadaga County Club, Frisbee Road, Cassadaga. The basket giveaway is from 4 ot 7 p.m. Friday outside of the Pro Shop. The event also includes dinner at the country club. The golf tournament begins with a shot-gun start at 9 a.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Saturday and the basket raffle continues until noon on Saturday. Golfers are still needed to fill out the course.
