Ellington Town Picnic To Be Held Aug. 1-3

ELLINGTON – The 112th Ellington Town Picnic will be held on August 1-3. The picnic will start at 5 p.m. Friday featuring Happy Days at 7 p.m. The Ellington Fire Department will have a fire truck pull starting at 5 p.m. Events on Saturday commence at 9:30 a.m. with registration for the baby show. A chicken barbecue by the Ellington Fire Department will start at 11:30 a.m. There will be many contests and music throughout the day Saturday. The parade will be held at 6 p.m. followed by music from Bottoms Up and the fireworks display at 10 p.m. There will be a church service in the park on Sunday at 10 a.m. followed by a family style picnic. I-86 Bridge Over Lake To Close Overnight Aug. 1-6, Aug. 8

The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that the bridge carrying Interstate 86 over Chautauqua Lake between North Harmony and Ellery will be closed to eastbound traffic during the following time periods to facilitate the ongoing bridge reconstruction project: from 9 p.m. Thursday, July 31, until 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1; from 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, until 6 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2; from 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, to 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4; from 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5; from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6; from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 8. In addition, the bridge will be closed to westbound traffic during the following time periods: From 9 p.m. Thursday, July 31, until 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, and from 9 p.m. Monday, August 4, to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5. Motorists should follow the posted detour utilizing State Route 394 and State Route 430.

St. Luke’s Thrift Shop Open Aug. 2, Aug. 9

St. Luke’s Thrift Shop, 409 Pine St. between East Fourth and East Fifth streets, Jamestown, will be open Aug. 2 and Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Regular shopping hours are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Most summer merchandise is reduced. All proceeds are used for local outreach.

Busti Gazebo Concert Series Continues

BUSTI – The Busti Gazebo concert series presents Old Dawg Bluegrass on Saturday, Aug. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. Old Dawg Bluegrass Band features Mark “Old Dawg” Davis on upright bass; Steve Strom on mandolin and vocals; Bill White on banjo, dobro and vocals and Steve Eng on guitar and vocals. The band plays a fusion of bluegrass and gospel music blended with folk, jazz, country and rock ‘n roll. Those attending should bring a lawn chair for seating. Concerts are sponsored by the Busti Hamlet Development Association and the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.

Sherman Church To Host Chicken BBQ, Bake Sale Saturday

SHERMAN – The Sherman Community Church will hold a chicken barbecue and bake sale from noon until gone Saturday, Aug. 2. Dinner costs $15 with a half-chicken available for $9. The bake sale will benefit Mustard Seed, Global Health & Wellness.
